Hardware in-the-loop testing for microgrids

by Kati Sidwall, RTDS Technologies, Canada

Too big to Ignore:  Although we think of microgrids as small, their presence in our power system is now too big to ignore. The electrical and economic impacts of microgrids are significant for utilities, equipment developers, policymakers, and consumers – and these systems are so unique in their physical makeup, operation, and control that they have created their own industry.  Terms and definitions, control and operational standards, and communication standards are still being actively formulated by stakeholders.
