Peter Rietmann

Peter Rietmann was born in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. He graduated in electrical engineering from the Zurich University, and in 1993 he joined ABB Switzerland. Four years later he moved to Malaysia working for the local ABB as head of the Substation Automation engineering team. In 1999 he moved back to ABB in Switzerland and worked as consultant and later as global product manager for substation automation. He was from the beginning involved in creating ABBs IEC 61850 based solutions for substation automation. Cyber security for substation automation and digital substation using IEC 61850 process bus where his subsequent focused areas. Since 2015 he works at ABB in Raleigh NC, US as program manager digital substation North America beside his role as global product manager for substation automation.

Peter loves to travel around the globe and enjoys time with his family. If time allows he likes to ride bikes (with and without motor). Usually he prefers the tropical weather but doesn’t mind to downhill a powder snow slope with his snowboard on a sunny winter day.

Eric Udren

Eric Udren has a 47-year distinguished career in design and application of protective relaying, substation control, and communications systems.  He began his career at Westinghouse, and held technical leader and manager positions at ABB, Eaton Electrical, and KEMA.  He programmed the world’s first digital relay, and led development of the first LAN-based substation P&C system. He works with major utilities to develop new substation protection, control, communications designs and remedial action schemes based on Ethernet, IEC 61850, and synchrophasor techniques. Eric is IEEE Life Fellow, and twice the former chair of the RCS of the IEEE PSRC.  He is US Technical Advisor for IEC TC 95 relay standards; and a member of the IEC TC 57 WG 10.  Eric serves on the NERC SPCS and Relay Maintenance Standard Drafting Team.  He has over 90 technical papers and book chapters and 7 patents. Since 2008 he has served as Executive Advisor with Quanta Technology, LLC of Raleigh, NC.

Eric enjoys running several times a week, spend time with friends, and tour the places he visits for work or holiday. He loves classical music, and enjoys the cultural offerings of the city.  He belongs to a local radio club and maintains a working HF/VHF station.

Jared Harris

Jared Harris has worked for HDR for 15 years and is currently managing the System Protection and Studies Group.  He has a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Montana State University.  He has spent the past few years working in the Bakken Region on IEC 61850 substations and has been involved in the design and commissioning of over 110 integrated substations.  He has a passion for integrating technologies into substations.  He lives in Montana and is a registered Professional Engineer in that state.  

Although committed to the profession of engineering, he also enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids in outdoor activities across the state of Montana.

Priyanka Mohapatra

Priyanka Mohapatra is currently working as Senior Project Manager within Future Networks department at SP Energy Networks. She is leading NIC project VISOR, FITNESS and is also involved in conceptualization of future transmission innovation proposals. She offers considerable experience and expertise in successful delivery of transmission innovation projects. Prior to joining SPEN, Priyanka was working with Siemens AG as a software developer and project manager. She is enthusiastic about engineering and environment.

As a recreational activity Priyanka enjoys flying unpowered aircraft using naturally occurring currents of rising.
