Justin Smith

Justin Smith is a Principal Engineer/Architect with GE Industrial Communications (GEMDS). Justin has 22 years of experience in wireless product design and development. His roles have included engineer, principal engineer, program leader, engineering manager, and product architect. He has led teams creating both hardware and software through product requirements, technical specification, development, test, and transition to manufacturing. Justin holds a BSEE and MSEE with a concentration in communications and signal processing. Justin has presented and spoken on various customer topics and training sessions. His current focus areas include Internet of Things (IOT) and industrial applications running on edge devices.

Justin is married with four children. He enjoys coaching youth baseball and basketball and is a member of the Honeoye Falls-Lima-Mendon Youth Baseball Board of Directors.

Mathias Kranich

Mathias Kranich graduated from the University Karlsruhe in electrical engineering in 1994 and earned a diploma in economic sciences in 1995. He has worked for over 19 years in the field of product management in utility communication and has vast experience in different communication applications and technologies. He is currently head of product management for telecommunication solutions at ABB.

Mathias is married and is a father of 3 children. In his leisure time he plays keyboard & guitar in a rock band. 

Steven A. Kunsman

Steven A. Kunsman is Director of Product Management & Applications, ABB Power Grids - Grid Automation in North America. Steve joined ABB Inc. in 1984 and has over 34 years of experience in Substation Automation, Protection and Control. He graduated from Lafayette College with a BS in Electrical Engineering and Lehigh University with an MBA concentrated in Management of Technology. Today, Steve is responsible for ABB North American Substation Automation business’ technical team. He is an active member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society PSRC & PSCC Committees, PSCC Cyber Security Subcommittee chair and has held multiple working group chairs, past IEC TC57 US delegate in the development of the IEC61850 communication standard and UCA International Users Group

Executive Committee Co-chair.

In his leisure time, he enjoys photography in the outdoors and underwater.

Terry Fix

Terry graduated from Blue Ridge Community College in 1984 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science Degree.  He started with Dominion Energy in 1986 as a Field Technician in System Protection.  In his 32 years at Dominion Energy, he has held various roles including Lead Lab Support, System Protection Engineering, Applications Engineering, Supervisor of System Protection Engineering, and is currently a Protective Relay Systems Consultant involved in developing new technology.  Terry leads a System Protection Technology Assessment Team developing new concepts and piloting projects for Distributed Generation and IEC 61850.  He is a past working group member of IEEE 1547-2018 and member of PJM Relay Subcommittee and past chair.

When not working as a protection engineer, Terry spends time working on his farm.
