Southern African Power System Protection & Automation Conference

The event was held 8 – 10 November 2017 at St Georges Hotel, Tshwane, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The inaugural 2017 Southern African Power System Protection and Automation Conference - an expansion of the successful biennial Southern African Power System Protection Conference has the following objectives:

  • Provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas within the power system protection, automation and related industries
  • Enhance the technological knowledge base and stimulate interest in the subject of power system protection, automation and related disciplines

The conference was organized by the Power Delivery Engineering Division of Eskom, the South African electricity utility. The opening address was delivered by Prince Moyo and the keynote by Jacob Machinjike, SAIEE president.
The program included papers focusing on IEC 61850, protection and fault detection systems for transmission and distribution systems, digital substations.
Leading suppliers in the field exhibited electric power system protection, communications, testing and other related equipment at the exhibition area.
