10th Protection Automation and Control World Conference (PACWorld 2019), Glasgow, United Kingdom

After the 6th PAC World conference in 2015 was held for the first time in Glasgow, UK, the second time the conference was held again at the Technology and Innovation Center of the University of Strathclyde.  It was attended by protection, automation and control specialists from countries from all over the world.

The conference was preceded on Monday by a half-day tutorial on "Developments and Applications of IEC-61850 " presented by industry experts from the US, Switzerland and Austria covering developments in the standard, as well as its applications in engineering and cyber security. The tutorial and registration were followed by the welcome reception that was held in the Glasgow City Chambers.

The conference opening Tuesday morning was followed by the keynote presentation by Scott Mathieson, Network Planning & Regulation Director, SP Energy Networks about "Smart communities," a topic of great interest to our community.
The welcome civic reception was hosted by the Glasgow City Council at the beautiful City Chamber.
The conference program included three full days of paper sessions. Fifty-eight papers from all continents were presented in ten sessions. The end of each session was a fifteen minutes discussion of the presented papers. The now traditional interactive poster session gave an opportunity to the authors to make short presentations of the main ideas in their papers, followed by interactive discussions.

As is already an established tradition, the Thursday afternoon session after the lunch break was an Interactive Session - Ask the Experts. The participants submitted some of their questions in advance or asked them directly during this interactive session, resulting in very interesting and lively discussions
During the coffee and lunch breaks the participants in the conference visited the exhibition area to see demonstrations of the latest protection, automation and control devices and tools by experts from leading global suppliers.
The conference gala dinner was held at the historical Merchant House. The awards ceremony for the photo contest followed the excellent food and entertainment that created a nice environment for the participants to make new friends and have fun.

The conference was followed by a technical tour at the Wishaw 275 kV substation in Scotland - the site of the FITNESS project, a fully digital IEC 61850 based PAC system.
