10 February, 2009, Brisbaine, Australia

A second event on the same day as Energex crews worked to restore a malfunctioning mains powerline in Mango Hill cut power to nearly 58 thousand homes in Brisbane's northern suburbs.

30 March, 2009, Sydney, Australia

About 70 thousand homes and businesses in Sydney's east and the city lost power for two hours when a major power cable failed during peak time. Three other cables were tripped at the same time. Some backup protection operated as well.

12 April, 2009, Sydney, Australia

Failures at four high-voltage power cables that supply very large substations virtually paralyzed Australia's biggest city. Tens of thousands of homes and offices in the center of Sydney have been left without power.

15 April, 2009, Kyrgyzstan

Millions of people in Central Asia were plunged into darkness due to damage of the high voltage power line Toktogul-Frunze (the largest line in the Kyrgyz Republic) connected to Kyrgyzstan's main hydroelectric plant. The southern part of Kazakhstan and northern Kyrgyzstan have been affected. The cause of the blackout remained unknown.

21 April, 2009, Ontario, Canada

Approximately 20 thousand customers were without power due to a 230 KV line that was down at the vicinity of St. Isidore station, touching the fence around the perimeter of the station. It was not clear what brought down the line.

28 April, 2009, Sydney, Australia

About 30 thousand customers were without power in the largest Australian city. The third blackout in a month was caused by a fault in a cable that supplies power to the city from a station at Lane Cove, on Sydney's north shore. It is suspected that the cause is not only failure in a cable, but also problems with the protection system tripping healthy cables.

28 April, 2009, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada

A fire that started at the West Royalty substation in the north of Charlottetown left 55 thousand without electricity for a short time. The cause of the fire was not clear.
