The 20th International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution was held in Prague, Czech Republic 8 - 11 June 2009. The conference is organized by CIRED (Congrès International des Réseaux Electriques de Distribution.)
The conference and exhibition were held in the Prague Congress Centre located on one of Prague's hills. It is one of the dominant features of the capital of the Czech Republic with a view of the wonderful panorama of Prague.
The goal of the conference is to provide an opportunity for the participants to learn and discuss the issues of importance to the industry, as well as to become familiar with the advancements of technology related to distribution systems. This goal is achieved through a combination of presentations, poster sessions, discussions, tutorials and an industry exhibition showing the latest developments in distribution related technology. Pre-conference tutorial sessions are used to update the participants' knowledge of the industry's latest developments.
The three full days of technical presentations and discussions covered the very latest challenges and issues facing electricity distribution today. One of the six sessions was focused on protection and control and covered topics like convergence of network protection and network control systems, phase measurement units (PMU) and wide area measurement in distribution systems, network operation and communication network protection.
During the breaks and after the sessions the participants had a chance to discuss in detail and see demonstrations of the latest distribution equipment.
Technical visits and a social program allowed the attendees to become familiar with and enjoy everything that Prague has to offer. This completed the conference program.
The official conference dinner was held at the Premonstratensian Monastery - a spacious medieval place established around the year 1140.
