The 2009 CIGRE B5 meeting and colloquium were held in Jeju, Korea. Protection and control experts from many countries from all continents gathered at the Lotte hotel to share their experience and decide on future CIGRE activities related to the protection and control of the electric power systems.
The social program this time included an event that demonstrated that protection experts are not only excellent engineers, but great musicians as well. The first performance for the evening was by Moon-Duk Kim (Korea), who played the trumpet. He was followed by Dr. Toshihisa Funabashi (Japan) who demonstrated his skills on a traditional Japanese instrument - san-shin (three strings).
Prof. Vladimir Terzija (UK) and Mark Adamiak (USA) played folk and rock music on the piano, singing from time to time. The live performances were concluded by Prof. Ii-Dong Kim who sang in Korean and Italian.
Fernando Gonzalez (Argentina) could not attend the meeting in Jeju, but sent a CD with his interpretations of some Beatles songs.
At the end of the evening, like at any other CIGRE event, there was a "spontaneous contribution" by Massimo Petrini (Italy), who entertained the remaining participants playing ragtime and classic rock music on the piano.
