International Protection Testing Symposium (IPTS) - Boston, USA

The International Protection Testing Symposium (IPTS) was held 24-25 September 2013 at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, Boston, USA.
This is the first time that it was held in the United States with the idea to give an opportunity to more PAC specialists from North America to discuss with their colleagues from around the world the important issues of testing of protection and control devices and systems.

The conference opening was followed by a keynote speech by Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer, lll, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), USA. The lunch speaker was Rick Bush, Transmission & Distribution World, USA.The two-day symposium program included 25 papers presented by speakers from all over the world.

The conference was based on a single session format with paper presentations, each followed by discussions. This established a very dynamic atmosphere for sharing of issues and experiences related to the testing of protection devices and systems in today’s challenging environment.

At the same time some of the papers introduced advanced testing devices and tools that can improve the efficiency of the testing process, especially in the presence of advanced technologies such as precision time protocol (PTP) and IEC 61850 sampled values.
The social program included a reception the evening before the symposium and a Boat Cruise – Dinner on the Sea.
