PAC World Africa Conference, Cape Town, South Africa

The Annual PAC World Africa Conference (PACWAC) was held 30 July – 2 August, 2013 in Cape Town, South Africa.
After the success of the first regional PAC World conference for Latin America in Florianopolis, Brazil in November 2012, Cape Town, South Africa became the home of the first PAC World Africa conference.
The conference was preceded by a half-day tutorial covering the Impact of IEC 61850 Edition 2 on protection, automation and control systems, presented by Dr. Alexander Apostolov, PAC World, USA.
The two day conference program included 32 papers presented in four single sessions and covering a wide range of topics.
For the first time at a PAC World conference the program included an interactive poster session, during which the authors presented briefly the main ideas of their papers, followed by discussions with the participants in the conference.
During the breaks the participants at the conference visited the exhibition and discussed the latest technology and its applications.
The gala dinner took place at the unique GOLD African restaurant, which offered an excellent menu and great entertainment captivated by the tall, graceful Mali Puppets as they danced around the tables with the drummers and singers.
The technical tour following the end of the conference was to the 765 kV Sterrekus Substation, which was in the final stages before being energized, making it easier to move around the substation yard and control house.
