The 13th Annual Georgia Tech Fault and Disturbance Analysis Conference was held 3-4 May 2010 at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. This is, as far as we know, the only specialized international conference that focuses on the analysis of faults and disturbances, the tools that are needed to support them and the lessons learned from actual system events.
The conference technical committee had accepted for presentation at the conference twenty two papers that were delivered in four single sessions. The fact that there are no parallel sessions is very helpful, since it allows all participants to see and discuss each of the accepted papers.
The papers presented at the conference can be grouped in the following categories:
There are two very specific events at this conference. The first is the display and discussion of actual fault records brought by attendees to the conference. It allows specialists to share their experience from the analysis of actual events or to seek comments and suggestions on events that are difficult to explain.
Another event is the User Forum. This is the time when users of fault and disturbance analysis equipment can share their experience and concerns amongst themselves, without the presence of representatives of the different manufacturers.
After the end of each day's paper sessions the participants at the conference had the opportunity to visit the vendors' hospitality suites at the Atlanta Renaissance hotel. Different recording devices and software tools were demonstrated by the manufacturers, so that their applications could be discussed with the attendees in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
