2019 IEEE PES General Meeting (IEEE PES GM 2019)

The 2019 IEEE Power & Energy Society GM was held 4-8 August 2019 at the Hilton Atlanta Hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The first day of the conference started with tutorials and panel sessions and ended with a welcome reception at the Georgia Aquarium.

The technical program theme this year was “Expecting uncertainty / preparing to adapt” and included a wide variety of events, many of them of interest to the protection, automation and control community. The main conference program started with the PES Members Meeting chaired by Saifur Rahman, Virginia Tech, IEEE PES President. It was followed by a Plenary Session chaired by Daniel Diaz, Southern Company Services.
Many IEEE PES committees also held their meetings at the same time and location.

The program included multiple parallel sessions and other events, such as panel sessions, transactions papers sessions and best paper sessions. The Super Sessions included a series of presentations in composite sessions dedicated to a topic of significant importance and discussed it from different perspectives.
The Panel Sessions included invited papers on different subjects, mostly focused on topics related to the theme of the conference. Selected high quality papers were presented at paper sessions and paper forums.
A Monday evening Poster Session was a traditional special event when hundreds of authors presented in an interactive environment their papers covering all aspects of the industry. At the same time participants had an opportunity to stop in and congratulate the new IEEE Fellows during the reception held in their honor. Technical tours and tutorials further enriched the conference program.

Tuesday evening was the Awards dinner and ceremony where IEEE and PES award winners were honored for their outstanding achievements. Wednesday’s program ended with two networking receptions - one hosted by IEEE PES Women in Power and the second - Young Professionals.
