The main goal of the IPTS 2011 was sharing knowledge and experiences related to the testing of electric power systems protection, automation and control devices and systems by combining a high level of knowledge and expertise with a keen emphasis on practical relevance in a relaxed atmosphere. It provided a multicultural platform for the exchange of experiences and intensive discussions on a global scale, with participants from more than forty countries from all over the world.
The symposium was opened with a keynote presentation by Christoph Brunner, convener of IEC TC 57 Working group 10, responsible for the development of IEC 61850.
The first session was focused on Classical Testing and discussed topics related to the testing specific protection and protection related functions, as well as SCADA functions testing, and testing automation.
The second paper session's subject was Smart Testing. Papers covered testing of protection schemes and systems containing Distributed Energy Resources, as well as testing of adaptive protection systems under defined conditions, simulation and assessment of stability. The papers on Edition 2 of IEC 61850 and its impact on testing, grid codes and legal issues were also presented during this session.
The last session discussed the impact of new technologies on testing and covered a wide range of topics, such as current and voltage sensors, IEC 61850 GOOSE, Sampled Values and smart applications. The topics of Synchrophasors and time synchronization were also included.
During the symposium speakers from many countries presented new solutions and discussed ongoing ones that have an impact on testing.
