The event started with an opening ceremony hosted by the Secretary-general of the CSEE Dr. Ruomei Li.  Chinese and international experts addressed the participants. This was followed by six keynote speeches on subjects of importance to our industry presented by leading and well known experts. They talked about smart grid, Ultra- High Voltage power transmission technology, of relay protection and automation of power systems, wind power development on a large scale and the role of CIGRE in the development and implementation of IEC 61850.
In the afternoon of October 17th Chinese and foreign speakers presented papers in Special Sessions of the conference on two topics:

• Smart grid
• Ultra High Voltage technology and green energy

Participants presented their papers in oral and poster sessions during the three days of APAP 2011.  The event was followed by a technical visit to Beijing Sifang Automation Co., Ltd. – a high-tech company mainly engaged in the development of relay protection and power systems automation devices and systems.

The conference program also included a small exhibition, as well as several social and cultural events that allowed the participants to exchange ideas and get a feeling of the rich culture of China.
