45th Western Protective Relay Conference Spokane, USA

The WPRC 2018 took place 15-18 October 2018 in Spokane, Washington, USA.

The event was held at the Spokane Convention Center. The conference is organized by Washington State University as an educational forum for electric power systems protection and control specialists predominantly from the United States to discuss a broad range and aspects of protective relaying and related subjects, including topics related to DER integration, communications and IEC 61850.

The accepted papers were presented in ten sessions - two general and eight parallel. At the same time some of the participants had another choice - the Fundamentals track. This format gives the participants the choice of topics that are of specific interest to them, and for the young engineers to learn some of the basics.

The Keynote was “It's Not My Fault! The Increasing Complexity of Defending the Network” presented by James Merlo - Vice President at NERC.

After the end of each day sessions, the attendees visited the exhibition areas of the convention center. Major global suppliers of protection, automation and control equipment and tools present their latest innovative solutions and have their experts available to discuss their applications.
