The event was held 23-25 March, 2010 in Tampa, Florida.
According to the organizers, this year's conference was the largest in its twenty years history. It featured twelve conference tracks and more than two hundred of the industry’s top speakers.
One of the key concerns of the industry is the changing technology that requires the continuing education and training of professionals so they can successfully implement the advanced functionality of the new devices, systems and tools. To address this issue, the Utility University offered during the two days preceding the conference a wide range of popular courses from previous years, plus new courses that covered critical topics in the industry. The courses were taught by recognized experts in their respective fields and were held in a classroom environment to maximize the attendees' learning experience.
The official conference program started with the Keynote Session that featured Katherine Hamilton, President of the GridWise Alliance, Gordon L. Gillette, President of Tampa Electric Co. and Dave Barry, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist.
The conference itself was organized using different formats for presentations and discussions of the challenges facing the electric power industry on the road to a Smart Grid – the subject that dominated the program. They included:
All these different formats however were united by the fact that they addressed various aspects related to the smart grid – distribution and substation automation, building automation and metering, protection and control, cyber security, IEC 61850 and many others.
The combination of paper presentations and discussions with the exhibition that allowed the participants to see the latest smart grid related technology was a powerful way to demonstrate the direction in which our industry is moving.
The conference also allowed the attendees to meet with colleagues from around the country and the world and make new friends during the breaks and the networking event held on the waterfront next to the Tampa Convention Center.
The 2010 DistriuTECH conference was the largest event in its twenty years history.
