Developments in Power System Protection, 2010, UK

The 10th International Conference on DPSP was held 29 March - 1 April 2010, Hilton Deansgate, Manchester, UK.

The motto of the conference was "Managing the Change" – very appropriate at a time when the industry is focusing a lot of energy on the transition to a Smart Grid.

What was interesting this time was that the conference followed in 2010 a very successful event in 2008 – a time interval of just two years.  The time between previous conferences was four years and three years. We hope that now this interval will become more deterministic.

DPSP, the only specialized protection and control conference in Europe, provided a needed forum for the international engineering community to meet and exchange ideas in this changing industry environment.

The conference started with two keynote presentations, followed by paper presentations.

The program included different forms of presenting papers – oral presentations and poster sessions. The papers were focused on a wide range of topics grouped in sessions focusing on smart grid, IEC 61850, distributed generation, requirements and new methods for the protection and control of the electric power system.

Coffee and lunch breaks were at the exhibition area, which allowed the participants to exchange ideas and discuss applications with the exhibitors.

The conference dinner was held at the Great Hall of the prestigious Manchester Town Hall - one of Manchester’s popular tourist attractions.
