Walt Elmore

Walt Elmore passed away the night of 20 January 2010.  He was a member of the Power System Relaying Committee for more than 50 years, with his first meeting being in September 1957. 

He served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator during World War II. 

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, he started his career at Memphis Light Gas and Water before joining Westinghouse Electric.  He held 4 patents and authored many technical papers on the subject of protective relaying.  He was a Life Fellow of the IEEE.  He served in many functions of the IEEE, PES and PSRC.  He was chair of the PSRC from 1983 to 1984 and continued to make significant contributions to the committee until just recently.  He was awarded the IEEE Medal for Engineering Excellence in 1989. 

Walt Elmore was the first Guru in the PAC World magazine.
