EEE Smart Grid Communications, Vancouver, Canada

SmartGridComm 2013 was held in Vancouver, Canada.

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications was held 21-24 October 2013 at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel.

It is a forum to discuss all aspects that are relevant to smart grid communication technologies. Its main goal is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government institutions, with backgrounds in communication, energy, control, and information systems to exchange ideas, explore enabling technologies, discuss innovative designs, and share field trial experiences. The first day of the conference included a tutorial on IEC 61850-Principles, Applications and Benefits, as well as several workshops covering Closed-Loop Wide Area Applications, Communications, and Security, Smart Grid at Scale - The UBC Living Lab, Wireless Communications and Cyber Security in the Smart Grid.

The event program included paper sessions covering different smart grid aspects such as demand response, support for storage, renewable resources and micro-grids, cyber security, data management, communications and networking. Five minutes “lightning talks” were also used to convey the main points on certain topics.

The keynote speakers covered issues related to networks and markets for scheduling energy consumption, transforming our business with technology and challenges for smart communications in distribution systems.
