The event was held under the theme "Powering up the Next Generation."

The event was held 26-30 July at the Sheraton Denver Downtown hotel, Denver, USA. Thousands of specialists and students from different areas of the electric power industry from all corners of the world presented the latest results from their research and discussed the challenges that our industry faces in the transition to a smarter grid with a deep penetration of distributed energy resources.

The technical program included a wide variety of events. There were multiple parallel sessions and other events, such as Super Sessions: a series of presentations in composite sessions designed to fully explore topics from different perspectives. Panel Sessions included invited papers, while selected high quality papers were presented at paper sessions and paper forums.

The Monday evening Poster Session was a special event where hundreds of authors presented their work on all aspects of the industry. At the same time participants had an opportunity to stop in and congratulate the new IEEE Fellows during the reception held in their honor.
Half- and full day tutorials were intended to educate the industry of the changing technology and its impact. Of special interest to the PAC community was the tutorial on Smart Substations: Protection, Control, Communications, Wide Area Measurements, and Enterprise Applications.
