72nd Georgia Tech Protective Relay Conference (GT PRC)

The Conference was held at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, Atlanta, USA. The two and a half days’ program included papers selected by the technical committee and presented mostly in parallel sessions. The focus of the conference is a wide range of topics related to the application of advanced protection and control technology in transmission and distribution systems, integration of renewable energy resources, generator and wide area protection, communications, testing and condition monitoring and many other topics.  
During the conference lunch on Thursday, the Keynote Speech “Grid Modernization Opportunities and Challenges” was presented by Dr. Damir Novosel, President of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES). Also, Ariana Hargrave, Swagata Das and Jacobus Corpuz received the 2017 Walter Elmore best paper award for “A current story - when primary met secondary.”
The Friday morning session included a forum for short presentations on "real life" experiences, as well as an interactive panel session on IEC 61850 digital substations. 
The participants visited the exhibition areas where leading global suppliers of protection and control equipment and tools demonstrated their latest technology.
