The 63rd Annual Georgia Tech Protective Relaying Conference was held 22-24 April 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The venue of the conference was the historical Fox theatre.
Forty papers selected by the program committee were presented by authors from around the world in ten sessions during the two and a half days of the conference. Most of the sessions were running in parallel in the Egyptian Ballroom and the Grand Salon of the Fox Theatre.
The papers presented at the conference covered a wide range of topics such as protection theory, applications and testing of generators, distribution and transmission systems, as well as IEC 61850 process bus solutions and XML based configuration tools.
Karl Zimmerman and David Costello received the 2008 Walt Elmore Best Paper Award.
Purdy Mohammed received the Clayton Griffin Student Paper Award for her paper "Applying Demand Side Management to the Trinidad Network".
After the end of the paper sessions on Wednesday and Thursday the participants in the conference had the opportunity to visit the hospitality suites of leading manufacturers from around the world and discuss the different protection, automation and control devices, testing equipment, configuration, short circuit analysis and coordination tools.
