OMICRON electronics introduced the first device that allows functional testing of protection relays or other IEDs that are compliant with the IEC 61850 communications protocol. The CMC 256 NET-1 Option provides a new way of communication between a computer and the test set. It replaces the parallel interface and supports the control of multiple test sets with only one computer.
GOOSE messages can be published and subscribed to, while at the same time operating relay outputs and monitoring the binary inputs. This allows the comparison of hardwired and communications based protection relay operations.
The NET-1 option can be ordered with a new device or as an upgrade for a CMC 256.
It has two Ethernet interfaces:
10/100 Mb/s "copper" (10/100Base-TX, auto-sensing, auto-crossover, RJ45 connector for CAT5 twisted pair cables).
100 Mbit/s fiber optic (100Base-FX, MTRJ connector).
