PAC System Engineering Perspectives

by Luc Hossenlopp, Schneider Electric, France

System engineering activity is not something you normally see when visiting a live substation. Without it, however, the substation would not operate. The International Council on System Engineering defines system engineering as "an interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems. It focuses on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceeding with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete problem operation, test, performance, manufacturing, cost and schedule, training and support, disposal."   More
