The protection of electric power systems with large number of induction motors requires an approach based on a better understanding of their behavior during and after the clearing of short circuit faults. While in many cases, especially if there is no recording of the fault and post-fault conditions, protection specialist may find it difficult to explain the undesired operation of distribution feeder protection relays.
