3rd Protection, Automation & Control World Americas Conference

The 3rd PACWAC was held 30 August - 1 September 2016, in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

The third annual PAC World Americas conferences was held once again at the Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, USA.
The opening of the conference was followed by the Keynote address "The Future of Electricity - PAC challenges of today and tomorrow”, presented by Jonathan Sykes, Senior Manager of System Protection, Pacific Gas & Electric.
The three day conference program included more than 80 papers presented in single sessions and covering a wide range of topics.

As is a tradition for all PAC World conferences – there were no parallel sessions. The authors of the presented papers were from 24 countries representing all continents, demonstrating the global appeal of the conference.
Fifty eight (58) papers were presented in the paper sessions including 15 minutes presentations followed by a discussion of all the papers at the end of each individual session.
The remaining papers were presented in an interactive poster session, during which the authors presented briefly the main ideas of their papers. These short presentations are followed by authors’ discussions with participants in the conference in front of each poster.

Both the oral and poster papers covered a wide range of topics related to the challenges that the protection, automation and control industry is facing - the impact of distributed energy resources (DERs) with inverter based interfaces on protection and control systems, cyber security, IEC 61850, new technologies for protection applications, and many others.

The traditional “Ask the Experts” panel discussion gave an opportunity to the participants to discuss a wide range of questions submitted in advance or raised during the session.

During the coffee and lunch breaks the participants visited the exhibition and discussed the latest technology and its applications.

For the first time after the end of the conference program on Tuesday there was a demo session when participating exhibitors had an extended interaction with the participants in a relaxed atmosphere.

The social program of the event included the Welcome reception on Monday evening at the Busy Bee Café in Raleigh.
The gala dinner took place at the Contemporary Arts Museum Raleigh (CAM), Raleigh, which offered a unique environment and excellent menu. This was followed by the photo competition awards ceremony and a great entertainment by an excellent magician.

The traditional photo competition awards ceremony took place during the Gala Dinner.
