PAC World 2013 Conference, Dublin, Ireland

The conference was preceded by a half-day tutorial on "Optimizing protection operation in networks with large-scale penetration of renewable energy " presented by Dr. Alexander Apostolov (USA). The tutorial and registration were followed by the welcome reception that was held in the historical Trinity College Dining Hall.
The conference opening was followed by the keynote presentation by Pat O'Doherty, Chief Executive of ESB on “Innovating for Future Growth”.

Due to the large number of submitted abstracts and the fact that there are no parallel sessions, the conference program included three full days of paper sessions. Sixty four papers from twenty seven countries were presented in eleven sessions at the Edmund Burke Theatre in Trinity College. The end of each session was a fifteen minutes discussion of the papers.
For the first time one of the paper sessions was replaced by an Interactive Session - Ask the Experts. The participants could send their questions in advance or ask them directly during this interactive session. It resulted in interesting and very lively discussions, mostly focused on different IEC 61850 implementation issues.

During the coffee and lunch breaks the participants had a chance to visit the exhibition booths and discuss with the vendors the latest protection, automation and control devices and tools.
The conference gala dinner was held at the Crypt of the Christ Church Cathedral and included the awards ceremony for the photo contest, excellent food and entertainment that created a nice environment for the participants to make new friends and have fun.

The conference was followed by a technical tour that took place Friday morning at the Turlough Hill - Ireland's only pumped storage power station.
The fifth PAC World Conference will be held in Croatia in June 2014.
