IEEE PES General Meeting, Boston, USA

The IEEE PES General Meeting was held 17-21 July, 2016 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The event was held at the Sheraton Boston Hotel and the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston.
Thousands of electric power systems professionals from all over the world gathered to present their latest developments and discuss the challenges that our industry faces. The first day of the conference started with tutorials and panel sessions and ended with a welcome reception at the Boston Public Library.

The technical program theme this year was “Paving the Way for Grid Modernization” and included a wide variety of events, many of them of interest to the protection, automation and control community. The main conference program started with the PES Members Meeting followed by a Plenary Session chaired by Dr. Damir Novosel, IEEE PES President. Many IEEE PES committees also held their meetings at the same time and location.

The program of the conference included multiple parallel sessions and other events, such as Super Sessions: a series of presentations in composite sessions designed to fully explore topics from different perspectives. Panel Sessions included invited papers on different subjects, mostly focused on grid modernization and integration of DERs, but also including space weather and its impact on the grid. Selected high quality papers were presented at paper sessions and paper forums.
A Monday evening Poster Session was a special event when hundreds of authors presented their papers covering all aspects of the industry. Ten tutorials on different subjects were presented, including “Smart substations” and “Synchrophasor Systems”.  Five half-day technical tours were offered to participants. Wednesday’s program ended with two networking receptions – one hosted by IEEE PES Women in Power and the second - Young Professionals.

Tuesday evening was the Awards dinner and ceremony where IEEE and PES award winners were honored for their outstanding achievements.
