2008 PowerGrid Europe, Milan, Italy

The 2008 PowerGrid Europe conference and exhibition was held in conjunction with PowerGen and Renewable Energy Europe from June 3 to 5 in the Fiera Milano City in Milan, Italy. This Northern Italian "capital" is a welcoming city for visitors from around the world. The city is not only famous for the Duomo and the Opera House La Scala, it has as well a reputation for exclusive shopping. The Fiera Milano City - (a second conference and exhibition center north of Milan) - is one of Europe's earliest and largest convention centers.

It was the second edition of PowerGrid Europe. While PowerGen Europe is already a well established conference, PowerGrid Europe is still in the starting phase. According to the conference organization, 12500 attendees from more than 100 countries visited the event. Most of the exhibition surface from three huge halls was used by PowerGen. PowerGrid filled approximately one third of a hall. While all of the leading manufacturers of our industry were present, only a few of them presented equipment and services for the transmission and distribution industry.  Most of them were focused on power generation. Hopefully, this will change for the future so that the event will really establish itself as the one event for our industry in Europe.

The PowerGrid Europe conference sessions focused on the evolution, vision and development required for tomorrow's smart grid, and the technology improvements available for the efficient operation of today's grid.

Track 1 "Active networks and reflecting the smart grid vision"included the sessions:
