Western Protective Relay Conference

The annual Western Protective Relay Conference (WPRC) 2025 was held 27–30 October 2025 at the Spokane Convention Center in Spokane, WA, USA. Organized by Washington State University, the conference continues its long-standing tradition as a leading educational forum for professionals in electric power system protection and control. It provides valuable opportunities for industry specialists to network and exchange knowledge on current technical challenges and emerging solutions.

The 2025 program featured a comprehensive schedule including a Welcome Reception on Monday, followed by three full days of technical presentations, keynote sessions, and vendor exhibitions. The conference maintained its well-established format of general and parallel technical sessions, as well as the dedicated Fundamentals Track designed to support the professional development of young and early-career engineers. A special Women in Power Luncheon highlights diversity and leadership within the industry.

Technical papers and presentations addressed a broad spectrum of topics, including protection challenges associated with inverter-based resources (IBRs), wildfire mitigation strategies, digital substations and secondary systems, traveling wave applications, advanced communication technologies, battery energy storage systems, and microgrids.

As in previous years, the event concluded each day with opportunities to visit vendor exhibits showcasing the latest developments in protection and control technologies for modern power systems.
