The second edition of the book by Iony Patriota de Siqueira was simultaneously published in Portuguese and English versions. The 693-page book adopts a point of view of Control Systems Engineering to develop dynamic models of several types of hydroelectric stations, including reversible pumped-storage power, addressing both traditional mechanical and electronic regulators and modern digital and software-based automatic control systems based on the standard IEC 61850.
The approach is independent of the control technology, although concrete examples are provided in all technologies: mechanical, electronic, and digital.
A bottom-up approach is employed, starting with the study of the hydraulic systems internal to the plants and evolving through the speed governors to wide-area joint control of interconnected hydroelectric systems, with automatic control of generation and regional interchange of energy.
