The 17th International Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2024) Conference was held 4-7 March 2024 at the Midland hotel in Manchester, United Kingdom. More than 200 participants from 23 countries attended the conference.
The conference started with a tutorial related to Protecting the Evolving Grid, which covered both Technology and Workforce Challenges on the first day. In the afternoon there was a technical visit to the Manchester high voltage laboratory.
The next three days of the conference included paper presentation, invited speakers, invited sponsors and panel discussions. The different formats covered a range of topics such as transmission protection, distribution protection, digital substations and application of IEC61850, process bus and communications, protection of renewables, protection principles applied to the connection of offshore wind production, HVDC protection, protection applications, and fault location.
During the breaks the participants visited the exhibition area where leading manufacturers were showing their latest innovations.
The Conference Dinner was at The Lowry Theatre on Wednesday evening. It started with a drink reception in the Andrew and Zoe Law Gallery followed by dinner in the Compass Room
Felipe Lopes received the best paper award from the Conference Chair Abraham Varghese.
