The 5th International Conference on Smart Grid Synchronized Measurements and Analytics (SGSMA 2026) was og organized anized as a joint IEEE PES and CIGRE conference. SGSMA was hosted in Latin America for the first time, marking an important milestone in the global expansion of this leading forum dedicated to synchronized measurements, wide-area monitoring, and advanced power system analytics
The technical program included keynote presentations by Jaime Peralta, Professor Zoran Obradovic, and Dr. Zhenyu (Henry) Huang, addressing renewable grid operation, machine learning and artificial intelligence for power system analytics, and high-performance computing for resilient energy systems. The conference also featured tutorials, paper sessions, panel discussions, sponsor presentations, and regional townhall meetings.

Technical sessions covered a broad range of emerging topics. Several papers also explored the integration of synchronized measurements with digital substations, cloud computing, and next-generation grid operation tools. SGSMA 2026 included a PhD dissertation competition, graduate student travel grants, a synchrophasor anomaly detection competition, networking events, a conference reception, a gala dinner, and a technical field trip to the Chilean Independent System Operator (ISO) Control Room. By bringing together international experts from research and industry, the conference provided an outstanding platform for exchanging knowledge and accelerating innovation in smart grid monitoring and control.
SGSMA 2026 once again demonstrated that synchronized measurements, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence are becoming essential technologies.
