Following the TC57 Plenary hosted in Raleigh by the U.S. National Committee, the UCA 61850 User Group held its inaugural meeting this October in Lizard Lick, North Carolina, the event brought together a strong mix of experts, end users, and vendors.

Attendees enjoyed a diverse program of presentations, including updates on the IEC 61850 standard from Working Group 10 members and lessons learned from utilities around the world.
A defining feature of the User Group format is its emphasis on open, topic-focused discussion. Each session combined multiple speaker perspectives on key themes—such as testing, engineering, process bus, and the future direction of UCA—and dedicated time for moderated conversation. These discussions proved highly valuable, often generating more interest and questions than the schedule could accommodate.
With such positive feedback from its first gathering, the 61850 User Group looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing to support the community as it addresses the evolving challenges of implementing IEC 61850.
