Modular Automation Controller Enhances Substation Operations

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) has released an upgrade to the SEL-2240 Axion® Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) modular platform.

The upgraded Axion delivers 5 times the processing power and 33 percent more digital inputs to support advanced substation automation. Use the upgraded Axion as a smart remote terminal unit, a bay controller, or a digital fault recorder.

SEL-2240 Axion The Axion is a rugged, modular platform that combines the communications, built-in security, and IEC 61131 logic engine of the SEL Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) with a suite of I/O, monitoring, and control modules to provide high-speed, deterministic performance over an EtherCAT® backplane

The 32 digital input module delivers more input density than any other Axion module, making it an ideal retrofit solution for older automation controllers.  With its hardened design, the Axion is engineered to operate reliably for decades with little or no human intervention.
