Erik Sperling is one of the 2026 recipients of the CIGRE Technical Council Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the work of Study Committee A3 – Transmission and distribution equipment. The award is given every two years. Each Study Committee Chair nominates one member from their committee or working groups, which the Technical Council Chair then approves.
He graduated at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) in 1998 and completed his PhD on wide-band RC voltage dividers at the University of Dresden (Germany) in 2017. He has been the chair of IEC TC38 since August 2026, the chair of Switzerland IEC TC38 and the chair of CIGRE Switzerland SC A3. Erik is the convenor of IEC TC38 MT58 and of MT20 in IEC TC33. Since 2020, he has served as a Corporate Consultant at OMICRON electronics.
