Prof. Dr. Nirmal Kumar C. Nair received the CIGRE Fellow in 2026, towards acknowledgement of his significant contribution to the activities of Study Committee B5 (Protection and automation) as Green Book editor, several Technical Brochures co-author, and Special Reporter, and of his contributions to CIGRE New Zealand National Committee and CIGRE Asia-Oceania Regional Council.
He received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from The Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, India, in 1990, the M.E. degree in high voltage from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M, College Station, TX, USA, in 2004. He has held various industry, research, and academic positions during his career. He is currently working as Tenured Professor with University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand, He is Distinguished Member of CIGRE and IEEE Fellow.
