The 25th Annual Georgia Tech Fault and Disturbance Analysis Conference was held 22-23 April 2024 at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
The conference is jointly organized by the Transient Recorder Users Council and Georgia Tech.
Many specialists in the field of transient and disturbance recording technology, as well as fault and disturbance analysis came together at the conference to discuss the latest developments in technology and analysis tools, as well as protection operations.
A couple of papers focused on the use of IEC 61850 and its impact on fault and disturbance analysis in digital substations. Several papers presented the results from the analysis of protection operation during recent events and power system disturbances. Traveling waves for fault location and artificial intelligence applications to fault and disturbance analysis were also covered.
Following a well-established tradition, the conference program included a NERC update and the interactive presentation/discussion “Display and Discussion of Actual Fault Records Brought by Participants”, which challenges the attendees to figure out what had happened.
Robert Orndorff, Gad Ilunga and Genesis Alvarez, Dominion Energy, received the 2023 FDA Best Paper Award for their paper “Segmented Static Wires and Fault Location.”
After there was no User Forum at last year’s conference, it was back at the end of Day 1 of the conference.
