IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies NA – 2023

The 2023 North American Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (2023 ISGT NA) was held 15-19 January 2023 at the Grand Hyatt Washington.

It was sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), and its theme this year was “Moving to a Self-Driving Grid.”

This theme reflects the fact that the electric power system is undergoing a fundamental transformation caused by the dramatic increase in deployments of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), increase in adoption of smart loads, evolving communications technologies, regulatory changes and the emergence of new business models and grid services.

The conference was preceded by tutorials on Quantum computing in smart grids & Grid edge optimization.

The opening session was followed by a keynote on Challenges in Moving to a Self-Driving Grid. The first day program also included plenary sessions related to future strategies for smart grid deployment and guiding industry and government for the self-driving grid.

The conference program also included more plenary sessions, panel sessions in parallel tracks with presenters representing the electric utilities, regulators, technology providers, academia, the national laboratories, and both federal and state governments.

The first day concluded with a poster session. Other social events were networking lunches, as well as the attendee reception at the end of the second day of the Conference
