The IEEE Transmission and Distribution Latin America conference was scheduled to be held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 29 September to 1 October 2020.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the IEEE organizing committee made a decision that the conference will be a fully virtual event.

The Conference opening was preceded by a full day of tutorials covering different topics of interest such as:

  • Energy storage
  • Internet of Things, Models, Protocols and Platforms

The speaker at the opening session was Frank Lambert, IEEE PES President 2020 who talked about “The Electric Utility of the Future.”

Each of the three days of the conference program started with keynotes on topics including “US Utility Experiences on Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and Energy Storage” and “Cybersecurity of the Grid – Intrusion Detection in IEC 61850 Based Peer-to-Peer Communications.”

The keynotes were followed by oral paper sessions arranged in two tracks on topics of interest to the industry in its transition to the smart grid of the 21st century.

Papers were also included in poster sessions and each day of the conference finished with industry panels discussing “When things go Wrong: Large Disturbances and Black Start” and smart grids.
