Normann Fischer – new IEEE Fellow

Normann Fischer has been elevated to IEEE Fellow “for contributions to fault protection methodologies for electric power grids”. He has a BSEE, with honors, from the University of Cape Town in 1993, MSEE from the University of Idaho in 2005 and a PhD from the University of Idaho in 2014. 

He joined Eskom as a protection technician in 1984 and was a senior design engineer in the Eskom protection design department for three years. In 1999, Normann joined Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc., where he is currently a Vice President and Distinguished Engineer in the Research and Development division. 

He has authored and coauthored more than 80 technical papers and 12 transactions papers. He has more than 30 patents related to electrical engineering and power system protection.
