The event was held at The Westin Harbour Castle hotel in Toronto, Canada, 4-5 December 2019.
The event was preceded by an IEC 61850 half-day tutorial followed in the afternoon by a distribution automation tutorial.
The opening of the event was followed by a keynote presentation from Tony Lee, Distinguished Engineer from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories.
The speakers from utilities, manufacturers, and service providers presented the latest topics in protection, automation, and control. Each presentation was followed by discussions. Topics covered in the papers presented during the symposium can be summarized in the following categories:
- IEC 61850 and its applications to substation and system protection
- Cyber security
- Developments in power system protection
- Advanced methods and tools for protection IEDs and systems testing
- New trends and technologies in distribution automation
The second day of the symposium also included a panel discussion on “Creating a culture of trust.” This gave an opportunity to the participants to have a lively discussion on this topic of interest with top level industry experts.
The first day of the symposium ended with a reception, allowing the participants to relax in a nice environment and enjoy spending time with old friends and making new ones.
