Gabriel Benmouyal – new IEEE Fellow

Gabriel Benmouyal has been elevated to IEEE Fellow “for contributions to digital protective relays for power systems.”  

He holds a B.Sc (Electrical Engineering) and M.Sc. (Control Engineering) from Ecole Polytechnique, Université de Montréal, Canada. From1978 to 1997, he was a Researcher at IREQ, the Hydro-Québec’s research institute, where his main areas of activity were the application of microprocessors and digital techniques for substations and power plants control and protection systems. 

He has over 20 years’ experience working for a North American protective relays manufacturer. He has been a member of the Power System Relaying Committee of PES from1989 to 2016. He is listed as inventor in more than fifteen patents and is the author or co-author of more than fifty papers.
